Graduating Class of 2014 Look

I met with a stylist Ashley Dolton yesterday and she did her thing.

Take a look at a potential graduation look for my upcoming ceremony at the Javits center.

1609946_10152110145486947_1647248526766685268_nI absolutely adore this look.  I never wear white but this look is showstopping!

The pop of pink on my lips tied it all in.

Great job

College Graduation Attire

Almost everyday weather I am on the train to school or at work, someone asks me if I am African.  I would have loved to originate from the mother land but my parents are west indian.  I am a mix of several Caribbean islands but I would consider myself mostly Jamaican and Basian.

At times when I wear my hot pink lipstick I do see African-like features in my face and with my natural hair I favor a women of African descent.  For my second college graduation I want to wear something VERY DIFFERENT and original.

I decided to have a dress custom made for me out  of kente cloth.  I went to  The Bola International Boutique today in Harlem located at 2 West 125th street to create the perfect outfit for me.  I have a 29 inch waist and 52 inch hips so it is extremely difficult to find dresses that fit my top and bottom.  Besides, my graduation is means for a custom made outfit.

Upon arrival a gentleman let me choose my fabric from their wide variety and this was a tough decision.  There were several patterns that caught my eye and I was very indecisive and changed my mind four times but I chose fabric that I felt would stand out and make me pop.  I brought a print out of what I wanted and was measured on the spot.  He drew up a very reasonable quote for me and I was out the door feeling confident that I will reieve just what I asked for.  I am super excited to pick up my dress in a week.

Here is a look at the fabric that I chose

Natural Hairstyles for Special Occasions

I will be walking the stage with my Bachelor’s degree of science from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2 weeks!!!!  I am beyond excited and anxious to walk the stage after 4 lovely years of hitting the books.

As i put some thought into my attire for graduation of course I had to think of a few hairstyles that would work with me being that I have to wear my cap for the ceremony.  As you all know I did the Big Chop last October and I wear my hair out everyday but it is too still too short to fall down enough to fit under my cap.

I am sure that there are tons of successful, beautiful natural sisters out there with the same dilemma.  I made an appointment at a salon downtown to get my hair professionally done for graduation.  Here are the options that I am considering:

I am a little worried that my hair isn’t long enough for either of the styles but I have to do something.  I love my day-to-day twist out but I would love a different look for my special day.

I have not used heat at all on my hair post big chop but I am pretty sure the salon will.  One day won’t kill my tresses.  I will keep you ladies updated and you guys will be the first to see my freshly styled hair.

Stay tuned beautiful
